Describe your job in a couple of sentences:

I am the creative director and senior designer. I oversee all collections, shoots, creative output and press/ promotional activity.

When did you know what you wanted to do?

In my early twenties when I decided to start my own company

Did you go to university, go straight into the workforce or do an apprenticeship?

Yes. I studied Art History at Oxford Brooks University

What was your first job?

Working for the designer Elspeth Gibson as her assistant

Have you done other jobs in your life – if so what were they?
Did they influence what you do now?

I had been an intern at Spink (which is one of the oldest auction houses) for a time. I also worked for a couple of years for a private art collector. All of the work I undertook was valuable – I learnt discipline, the ability to work with all kinds of personalities and importantly to gain perspective. These have all been valuable in my current job

How did you find out about your job (how it existed)?

I had met many designers via my sister who had a very successful fashion PR company (I used to intern there sometimes)

How did you get the job you wanted- steps and process?

I started my company myself with a friend. It was exciting but uncertain. There were countless obstacles in our path bit I loved the challenge of working around them. We started at the beginning…

What qualities do you need to have to be successful in your field?

Courage, vision, thick skin. Perseverance. Knowing when to follow your heart and when to follow your head.

Give 3 tips for someone hoping to follow in your footsteps:

Ask questions. Learn from others who have more experience. Often people are kinder than you think. Make sure you manage your cash flow carefully. Be brave. A lot of things will go wrong. it’s how you deal with these setbacks that will set you apart from your competitors.
